Shawna L. Swetech is a poet and visual artist. A medical–surgical nurse for 33 years, Swetech says she “draws inspiration from the deep wells of human nature and the natural world,” writing narrative poetry “as a means of parsing out feelings from the intense, emotional field of bedside nursing.” Swetech created an “Art at the Bedside” project, using collage and flow-of-consciousness writing as healing modalities for hospitalized patients. Her poetry has appeared in The Permanente Journal, Rattle, The Healing Muse, Marin Poetry Center Anthology, and the California Quarterly. “Cat-a-tonic” © 2019 by Shawna L. Swetech.
