FEATURE: Art of Nursing

Therese Cipiti Herron is an artist and a nurse at the Grossmont Dermatology Medical Center, La Mesa, California. She is a member of the San Diego Art Institute and of the Artists Guild, an affiliate of the San Diego Museum of Art. Her work has been shown in international and regional juried exhibitions.

Art of Nursing is coordinated by Sylvia Foley, senior editor: sylvia.foley@wolterskluwer.com.

Through these and other paintings in her Nursing Series, Herron pays homage to the “unmistakable identity” that many associate with “a past-era uniform.” Other themes, she says, include “the critical shortage of nurses in this country and the diminishing visibility of a once-revered professional.”

Our cover this month features another painting from this series, Lost Soles. Its four panels depict the clinic shoes many nurses once wore. A third painting from the series, Eclipse, appears on page 63. For more of Herron's work, visit www.theresefineart.com. Contact artist: tmcherron@aol.com.
