  • The Food and Drug Administration has issued a Safety Communication regarding implantable pumps used for drug administration and the risks of using medications not approved for use with the pumps to treat or manage pain.
  • Nurses who work with patients receiving intrathecal delivery of pain medication via an implantable pump are urged to carefully read the pump's labeling to identify which medications are approved for use with the pump.
