CPAP or Intubation in Very Preterm Infants?

According to this study:

  • Use of CPAP shortly after birth had no effect on the combined outcome of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and death.
  • Infants on CPAP received surfactant half as often as intubated infants.
  • Three times as many infants on CPAP developed pneumothorax, but this didn't result in negative outcomes.
