Mr. Adams is 59 years old and has had ostearthritis in his left knee for 10 years. Two months ago, when his pain worsened, he increased his activities, thinking he could prevent his knee from getting stiff. He now does deep knee bends, knee weight-lifting exercises, and climbs stairs several times a day.
Ms. Brown is 27 years old and has had rheumatoid arthritis for two years. She currently has several hours of morning stiffness and finds she tires easily. When asked about exercise, she reports that she gets plenty of exercise from daily activities such as washing windows and dusting.
