Two primary questions asked about any medication are “Is it effective?” and “Is it safe?” There is little doubt about the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, but many people, researchers, phycians, and laymen alike, are not convinced of their safety for all patients. Here a wellknown physician examines some of the studies and reports about the various possible hazards and concludes that, although oral contraceptives are not absolutely safe, the medical risks are small in comparason to the benefits.
