Timing is all-important in the care of the elderly. The nurse must allow the patient more time to perceive, to mobilize his diminished psychologic and physiologic resources, and to respond. When she adjusts her pace to his, she enables him to function to his fullest capacity and with the greatest sense of fulfillment.
