On June 28, the 349th China Engineering Science and Technology Forum & 2022 Conference on High-quality Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine was held in Wuzhen International Internet Convention & Exhibition Center, Zhejiang Province. The conference is sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and undertaken by Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Component-based Chinese Medicine and Haihe Laboratory of Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine. The conference mainly focused on the following two themes: role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in COVID-19 prevention and control; role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in health industry development.

During the conference, the” Wuzhen Declaration on High-quality Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine” was issued and read by Professor Zhang Junhua from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Wuzhen Declaration put forward five goals and tasks for high-quality development of traditional Chinese medicine: Promote the supply of high-quality diagnosis and treatment services to make health services more accessible; promote high-quality clinical evaluation to achieve more sufficient evidence of efficacy; promote high-quality basic research to make scientific principle clearer; promote the production of high-quality medicinal materials to ensure the sustainability of TCM resources; and promote the development of high-quality new drugs to improve the overall quality TCM products.
Launching ceremony of Wuzhen Declaration on High-quality Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine
In order to promote the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan of the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the practice of Wuzhen Declaration, a Community for Promoting the High-quality Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established, which construsted of more than 30 institutions.
In addition, a closed-door seminar on major consulting projects of the Chinese Academy of Engineering was also held during the conference. In view of current difficulties and problems in the development of TCM, experts and representatives attending the seminar put forward strategic thinking with a focus on the handling of the relationships “between career and industry, inheritance and innovation, value and price, products and business formats, and development and sustainability”, and provide suggestions and opinions on the improvement of TCM-related policies.
