In Brief:
Evidence of the mind-body connection has signifi cant treatment ramifi cations within both medical and psychological health arenas and, by extension, within the exercise science and fi tness industries. This holistic conceptualization of health and wellness has impacted industry trends, training of fi tness professionals, and expectations of consumers. To meet these expectations, fi tness professionals must consider implementing strategies that incorporate psychological components into personal training or fi tness consultation. The adaptability of the Five Cardinal Mental Skills Model provides exercise professionals with a structured vehicle to introduce clients to the psychological aspects of wellness while remaining within their scope of practice.
