Anthony A. Abbott, Ed.D., FACSM, FNSCA, ACSM-CPT®, ACSM-EP®, ACSM-CEP®, is the president of Fitness Institute International, a consulting firm and personal trainer vocational program in South Florida. As an educator and researcher in exercise science and instructor standards as well as an instructor trainer in basic life support, he has been retained as an expert witness in 70 fitness facility litigations, in which more than 40 have been death cases. He was a former commanding officer of an Apollo Recovery Team as well as the Florida director of the Physical Fitness Institute of America that helped develop the exercise program for NASA and the Apollo missions. He is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer®, Exercise Physiologist, and Clinical Exercise Physiologist® as well as an NSCA-CPT*D, CSCS*D, CSPS*D, and TSAC-F. Dr. Abbott currently serves as an associate editor and The Legal Aspects columnist for ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal®.
