The Ophthalmological Society of Taiwan (TOS), founded on May 15, 1960, is the most organized and representative ophthalmologist organization in Taiwan.
The society is committed to actively participating in eye health care and promoting academic research in ophthalmology. As part of the society's short-term objectives, charity eye disease services have been set up in rural communities across the country since 2004. The society's long-term objectives lie in promoting preventive medicine, supporting basic and clinical research and establishing a nationwide registry system of ophthalmic disease.
The society also dedicates in generating greater communication among ophthalmologists and eye workers worldwide on current developments in ophthalmology. In this pursuit, TOS has organized and hosted numerous international professional events since 1994. In 2001, TOS successfully hosted the 18th Annual Congress of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2016, the society once again held the 31st APAO Annual Congress in Taipei, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge and promoting advancements in the diagnosis and management of eye diseases in every sub-discipline of ophthalmology.
