The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria
The Nigerian Postgraduate Medical Journal is the official publication of The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN). The NPMCN was established by the National Postgraduate Medical College Decree No. 67 of 24th September 1979, now Cap N59 Laws of the Federation 2004. It is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal.
Vision
The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria aims to produce medical and dental specialists of the highest standards who will provide world-class services in teaching, research and health care.
Mission
The mission of the college is to Plan, Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate postgraduate programs required to produce medical and dental Specialists of the highest quality, competence, and dedication, who will provide Teaching and Optimal Healthcare for the people. Lifelong learning will be maintained by continuing professional development programs of the College.
Functions of the College
The College shall have responsibility for the conduct of professional post-graduate examination of candidates in the various specialised branches of medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and dental surgery and making awards in relation thereto accordingly. This is done through;
1. The accreditation of Training Institutions for the Professional Postgraduate training of doctors and dentists and the periodic publication of a list of such accredited Institutions.
2. The organization of professional postgraduate training programmes and curricula as well as the conduct of Continuing Professional Development in the various specialized branches of medicine and dentistry and through the various Faculties of the College.
3. The conduct of professional postgraduate examination of candidates in the underlisted Faculties, as well as any other Faculties that may be approved from time to time by the appropriate organs of the College. The existing faculties are; Anaesthesia, Dental Surgery, Family Dentistry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatrics, Pathology, Psychiatry, Public Health and Community Medicine, Radiology, Surgery, Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine.
4. To carry out any other activities necessary for the furtherance of postgraduate medical education in the country.
Composition of the College
The College is composed of all Fellows of the College.
Organs of the College
The affairs of the College are managed by the Governing Board, Senate and the respective Faculty Boards and each exercises such powers as are conferred on it by the enabling Law or any other Laws subsequently made.
Location
The Headquarters of the College is situated at Kilometre 26 on Lagos- Badagry Expressway, Ijanikin, Lagos State. There is a liaison office at the premises of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Surulere, Lagos. The second liaison office is situated at the premises of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Abuja.
