Journal of Clinical and Scientific Research, a publication of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, was started, in 2012 when the university authorities headed by the then Director-Cum Vice-Chancellor felt the need for creating a forum for documenting research conducted across the country and the globe in the form of a "medical journal" on the lines of the National Medical Journal of India (a publication of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) and Mayo Clinic Proceedings (USA). The name of the journal was proposed as “Journal of Clinical and Scientific Research” to include both clinical, basic medical, and translational research into the publication scope of the journal. Also, it was decided that the whole process will be non-commercial and the whole expenditure will be borne entirely by the SVIMS. Accordingly, no Advertisements shall be accepted to run the journal, no submission, processing, or publication fees shall be levied to authors, the free full text will be available online immediately after the issue is published and free print copies will be distributed to libraries of as many medical colleges in India as possible.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, management trust under the auspices of Government of Andhra Pradesh, for Lord Venkateshwara temple at Tirupati (https://www.tirumala.org/) brought two schemes one each for poor patient care (https://www.tirumala.org/SriVenkateswaraPranadanaTrust.aspx) and conduct of research (https://www.tirumala.org/SriBalajiArogryavaraprasadiniScheme.aspx) in SVIMS. This has enabled SVIMS to grow fast in marching forward towards its objectives.
