Published ahead-of-print in JTI is an expert opinion piece by Dr. Phil Boiselle et al. on the potential role of PET/MRI in cardiothoracic imaging, in particular where PET/MRI might replace PET/CT. Experts focus on the advantages of MRI over CT as well as refer to newer developments in MRI technique that improve image quality and diagnostic utility for cardiothoracic disease. Areas where PET/MRI may be particularly useful include cardiovascular disease and oncology. Commentators also suggest that PET/MRI may be especially useful in younger patients who likely will undergo years of follow-up imaging studies.
