EOSERA WINS TECH FORT WORTH IMPACT AWARDS
Eosera (https://earwaxmd.com/), the biotechnology company behind Earwax MD, is one of four winners of the 2017 Tech Fort Worth IMPACT Awards, which recognizes startups for making an impact in the local community and having the potential and plan for making a global impact. Eosera's first product Earwax MD, a dual-action topical drop that dissolves impacted earwax, sold out on Amazon in a month, and is currently available in CVS nationwide. Darlene Boudreaux, executive director of TechFW, the organizer of the IMPACT Awards, said Eosera has surpassed their expectations with their company's progress and first product. “Eosera is now expanding capabilities to bring manufacturing in house, right here in Fort Worth,” she said. Other winners of the IMPACT Awards are Aeroblaze Laboratory, an FAA-registered independent facility specializing in flammability testing for aircraft interiors; Exact Diagnostics, a provider of exact quality control materials and custom products for laboratories conducting infectious disease, oncology, and genetic testing; and Go Vivid, the maker of a portable electronic system designed to provide responsive route guidance and obstacle avoidance for sight-impaired individual.
HUMANA EXPENDS MEDICAL COVERAGE FOR HEARING AIDS
Humana (https://www.humana.com/) is expanding its hearing care coverage through a new partnership with TruHearing and inclusion from six to 34 states in its Medicare Advantage plan offerings. The benefit allows for one annual routine hearing exam at no additional cost to the member and digital hearing aids for fixed copayments. Members will be able to get two hearing aids per year (one per ear), with the choice of an advanced TruHearing hearing aid with a copay from $399 to $699 or a premium TruHearing hearing aid with a copay of $699-999. TruHearing aids include three provider visits for fitting and evaluations within the first year of the hearing aid purchase, a 45-day trial period, a three-year warranty, and 48 batteries per aid at no cost. Those with Medicare may select these plans during the 2018 Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan Annual Enrollment Period from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. The benefits will be available for use on Jan. 1, 2018.
SIGNIA NX BRINGS USERS THE MOST NATURAL OWN VOICE WITH NEW PLATFORM
Signia (https://www.signiausa.com/) introduced its new Signia Nx platform with Own Voice Processing (OVP) to deliver a natural own voice to users and increase users’ acceptance. Signia Nx with OVP is equipped with Ultra HDe2e binaural link, which enables scanning and processing of the hearing aid wearer's own voice independently from other sounds. The wearer's own voice and everything in the environment will then sound like what a non-hearing aid user hears. A study conducted by the company found that previously unsatisfied hearing aid wearers’ spontaneous acceptance of their own voice improved by 75 percent with their OVP technology. Signia Nx also offers Bluetooth direct streaming, facilitating audio streaming from the user's smartphone and TV.
ESCO ACQUIRES MIDWEST HEARING INDUSTRIES
The hearing aid insurance provider ESCO (https://earserv.com/) has acquired Midwest Hearing Industries, Inc., a hearing aid insurance company based in Edina, MN. Under the purchase, the name of Midwest Hearing Industries, Inc., has been changed to Midwest Hearing Agency, but it will continue to make insurance coverage available to patients who have lost hearing instruments during their manufactures warranty or after. Practitioners will continue to have the option to make this available to their patients.
