In the 17th year of the publication of Techniques of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, there will be a Changing of the Guard. Since 2002, Dr Doyle has been the Co-Editor-in-Chief, and under his tutelage and guidance the journal has become an internationally recognized journal with worldwide submissions and multiple special editions focusing on the most problematic Hand and Upper Extremity surgeries. Changing of the Guard is a military tradition in which there is a formal choreographed ceremony where sentries are relieved of their watch with a fresh batch of sentries to carry on their duties.

In the Changing of the Guard of Co-Editor-in-Chief of this journal, I have been asked to relieve Dr Doyle and carry on the traditions of excellence that he has set forth and perpetuated over the past 11 years. I am honored that Dr Doyle has passed his baton1 to me and will continue to strive for the excellence of this journal.
