Optometry & Vision Science:
Call for Papers
Over the past decade, Optometry and Vision Science (OVS) has regularly published Feature Issues dedicated to advances in research on clinically important topics. These Feature issues have been well cited.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss among the elderly in many countries. Until recently, all efforts were necessarily focused on maximizing residual vision through low vision rehabilitation efforts. That continues, with its own progress through research. But now, relatively new approaches have also emerged, including preventative approaches, that promise hope and some impressive results in the treatment aimed at reducing or restoring vision loss. In the last few years, both patients and clinicians, led by research advances, are finding new ways to deal with AMD.
OVS now plans a Feature Issue entirely devoted to the advances and challenges in AMD research and management. OVS invites Original Articles, Invited Reviews, Case & Clinical Reports, and Technical Reports that highlight the latest clinical and basic research in AMD.
Topics may include but are not limited to the following:
- Methods for detecting changes at early stages of disease in AMD
- Novel imaging methods for detecting early changes in AMD
- Genetic risk factors for AMD
- Epidemiology of AMD
- Animal models and cell biology of AMD
- Vision function and vision rehabilitation in AMD
- Neural and electrophysiological aspects of AMD
- Emerging treatments for both dry and wet AMD
All manuscripts will be peer reviewed and must be submitted online at http://ovs.edmgr.com.
Submissions must be prepared according to the Instructions for Authors available at http://edmgr.ovid.com/ovs/accounts/ifauth_online.pdf.
During submission, in the “Author’s Comments” box, note your paper is being submitted for this feature issue.
The Guest Editors are leading international researchers and pioneers in aspects of AMD research. They are Erica Fletcher, Susana Chung, Laura Downie, Robyn Guymer, and Algis Vingrys.
Erica Fletcher is the lead Guest Editor and will be coordinating submitted manuscripts with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor. Please contact the Editorial Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have any questions.
The Feature Issue will be published mid-2014.
