Abstract

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans includes a guideline on alcohol that has been consistent during the past 25 years-if you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation. This 1-day Ceres Invitational Workshop, for the first time ever, brought together scientists, regulators, and communicators from federal and state governments, academia, and private industry to discuss the education issues and ways to work in partnership in disseminating the alcohol guideline to the public. Participants agreed that there was a need for more consumer and health professional education, especially for training medical practitioners and allied health professionals to ask about alcohol consumption and provide appropriate advice about moderate drinking. Public-private partnerships can help enhance consumer understanding about moderate alcohol consumption
