Welcome to this Special Topics Edition for Sports Nutrition of the Strength and Conditioning Journal. Although the primary focus of the National and Strength Conditioning Association is in “strength and conditioning,” it is clear to anyone who works in this category that there is role for proper nutrition and supplements. In fact, it is often the strength and conditioning coach or the personal trainer who is sought out for advice on sports nutrition. Our goal with this special issue is not to turn you into sports nutritionists. On the other hand, it would behoove anyone who works with athletes, from recreational to the elite level, to acquire a working knowledge of sports nutrition.
