Abstract

SUMMARY: THROWING VELOCITY IS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT TO THE OVERHAND THROWING POWER ATHLETE'S SUCCESS. THIS ARTICLE BRIEFLY REVIEWS THE RESULTS AND SHORTCOMINGS OF PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED RESEARCH THAT USED GENERAL, SPECIAL, SPECIFIC, AND COMBINED TRAINING METHODS IN AN ATTEMPT TO INCREASE THROWING VELOCITY OF OVERHAND THROWING POWER ATHLETES OR ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE OVERHAND THROWING ACTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, THIS ARTICLE SUGGESTS PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS ON HOW AND WHEN TO APPLY THESE FINDINGS.
