summary

Anemia occurs in many different forms. Understanding how it affects performance and managing it properly is needed to help a person achieve his or her athletic potential. It is also important to understand how iron intake and absorption plays a role in helping prevent and manage anemia.

Paul Sorace is a clinical exercise physiologist for The Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Program and the program coordinator for The Bariatric Rehabilitation Program at Hackensack University Medical Center.

John Patzan is the senior exercise specialist for The Fitness Club at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack.
