For elite judo athletes and recreational judo athletes alike, sport-specific strength and conditioning is essential in the prevention of injuries and for enhancing performance. This article offers suggestions for judo athletes and coaches for the development of strength and conditioning programs specific to the requirements of their sport.

John Amtmann is a professor for the applied health science program at Montana Tech, and is the strength and conditioning coordinator for the Montana Tech basketball teams. He is also the judo coach for the Montana Tech Judo Club.

Adam Cotton is an undergraduate student in the Applied Health Science program at Montana Tech. He is an assistant to the strength and conditioning coordinators for the basketball and football teams.
