MATCH THE FACES AND NAMES

1 Look carefully at these 12 names and faces. Then cover up the names by folding the page along the dotted lines so only the faces are visible. Do something else for a few minutes. Come back to this page and write down the names that go with the faces on a piece of paper. Check your answers by unfolding the page. How many names did you recall?

THE POWER OF ASSOCIATION

2 Now try the same game again, but with a new strategy: Associate the meaning or sound of each name with some distinctive aspect of the face. For instance, Sonya's face is round like the sun which sounds like “son.” Use whatever association comes to mind first, no matter how odd. Chances are that your first association is the one that will come the most easily the next time you see the face.

Once you have memorized all the faces again, cover up the names by folding the page along the dotted lines so only the faces are visible. Do something else for a few minutes. Come back to this page and try writing down the names that go with the faces on a piece of paper. Check your answers by unfolding the page. Were you able to remember more names this time?
