Abstract

Objectives: The scope of this report encompasses the evaluation and diagnosis of congenital hypertrophy of the perineal body, technique for surgical reconstruction, and the quality-of-life outcome for the patient.

Case: A 27-year-old with sexual dysfunction (unable to have penetrating vaginal intercourse) secondary to congenital narrowing of the introitus underwent perineoplasty to restore anatomy and function.

Discussion: The congenitally hypertrophied perineal body is consistent in presentation and may be easily misdiagnosed as a congenital anomaly of the vagina when, in fact, the abnormality is limited to the introitus. The use of perineoplasty to restore the anatomy has a low risk of morbidity and resulted in restoration of full sexual function.

Conclusion: The use of perineoplasty for the surgical correction of congenital hypertrophy of the perineal body is a procedure with low morbidity and allows restoration of normal anatomy with an excellent cosmetic result and normal sexual function.
