Feature: education/missions

Many nursing students today want to be involved in mission projects to serve others, study abroad, and/or develop cultural competence. This article describes the service-learning model applied to a study-abroad clinical experience with a mission focus that follows best-practice guidelines for healthcare missions.

Nursing students want to be involved in missions to serve, study abroad, and develop cultural competence–and educators want to teach them! Service-learning partnerships can meet educational needs and more.

Dolores J. Wright, PhD, RN, is Associate Professor at Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California. A former missionary, she desires to inspire nursing students toward a broad worldview, including service to people globally and to be a part of the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ.
