We are becoming a global society, and nursing education must find ways to prepare nurses for this global society.

Short-term service learning projects help students discover other cultures.

Lawrette Axley, PhD, RN, CNE, has 14 years experience as a nursing educator. She is an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the baccalaureate and graduate programs in the Loewenberg School of Nursing at the University of Memphis. She has certification as a nurse educator through the National League for Nursing. Since 2005, she has lead four groups of nursing faculty and students in short-term international healthcare missions work in the Dominican Republic.
