It is a policy of JOT to use the OTA classification for all manuscripts describing fractures. Although it is acceptable to use another classification system, you must also use and reference the 2007 compendium. The compendium provides you with a unified language to code and classify fractures.

All studies that evaluate the patient's clinical results must be based on site-specific, validated functional outcome scores. Free access is available for the JOT Supplement “Guide to Outcomes Instruments for Musculoskeletal Trauma Research". Another suggested resource is the AO Handbook of Musculoskeletal Outcomes Measures and Instruments (AO Handbook).
