Sternal Osteomyelitis Caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis After Open Heart Surgery

There have been rare reports of sternal wound infections due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). We report the first case of MTB sternal wound infection following open heart surgery in a US-born individual who has never lived in a tuberculosis endemic area and had no history of pulmonary tuberculosis.
