After reading Dr. George Hossfeld's You've Been Served column, “Inappropriate Experts” (EMNow 2011 Oct 20; http://bit.ly/InappropriateExperts), I wanted to relate my story. In my only malpractice case that went to trial, the two experts to testify against me were a surgeon who was an intern at Barnes Hospital in 1947, the year I was born there, and a Canadian physician who, after one year of internship in Montreal, did not practice but made $500,000 a year as an expert witness. His earnings were used in the trial to discredit his testimony.
Sad but true.
