This is the fourth in a series of articles depicting real-life situations faced by critical care nurses in their daily work. Samantha Heavrin, MSN, RN, CRNA, is a certified registered nurse anesthetist. Before her current work, she spent several years in critical care nursing. Ms Heavrin worked in a trauma emergency department as well. She has also been fortunate enough to teach nursing students at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. Ms Heavrin loves the pursuit of learning. She is currently working on her fifth degree. She also enjoys writing and has irritated many friends and family by asking them what they think of her current "plot" ideas. She is married and has 2 children and a dog.
