Obesity and lipid metabolism: relevance of body fat distribution

Abstract

This paper reviews the recently published literature on obesity, body fat distribution and lipid metabolism. Studies have emphasized the importance of visceral fat as a correlate of alterations in plasma lipid transport observed in abdominal obesity. Some of the mechanisms in the relation of fat distribution to lipid metabolism have been identified, but additional studies are needed.
