Escharotomy Procedures for Burn Patients. By Michael Peck, MD, ScD, FACS, for Burn Wound Care Education, jointly developed by Maricopa Integrated Health System, the Arizona Burn Center, and the American Burn Association
When burns occur circumferentially, patients with these burn patterns are at risk for serious complications due to compromised blood flow to the extremities or restricted respiration caused by edema. Escharotomy procedures performed at the appropriate stage of treatment can help alleviate these life-threatening conditions and decrease mortality and morbidity. The most commonly performed escharotomy procedures are discussed and demonstrated in this video.
