June 2014 Issue and Journal Club
The June 2014 issue of Annals introduces a new series of articles that will be called “Surgical Perspectives.” Beginning with this issue, Surgical Perspectives will appear monthly and will provide authors the opportunity to express their opinions as short editorials. This month's perspective is Contemplation vs. Documentation Before Surgery. This issue also contains 2 featured articles with accompanying editorials, 1 randomized controlled trial, 1 meta-analysis, a surgical retrospection, and 22 additional original articles. The first feature is a meta-analysis of 57 articles assessing the effects of resident duty-hours restrictions on patient outcomes, resident education, and resident well being. The informative editorial is by Dr. Frank Lewis, executive director of the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Carlos Fernández-del Castillo is the expert moderator for the journal club. The featured article is “A Randomized Prospective Multicenter Trial of Pancreaticoduodenectomy With and Without Routine Intraperitoneal Drainage" that appeared in the April 2014 issue of Annals. It can be accessed for free by anyone wishing to participate in the journal club.
