April 2014 Issue and Journal Club
The April 2014 issue of Annals is a particularly large one with several key articles. The 2 featured articles are a randomized controlled trial showing the advisability of drainage after pancreatoduodenectomy and a systematic review of strategies for reducing regional variation in the use of surgery. The accompanying editorials put these 2 important articles in perspective. The issue also contains another 3 controlled trials, 2 reviews, 1 systematic review, and 20 additional original articles.

The expert moderator for the April journal club is Dr. Mary Hawn, professor of surgery and chief of gastrointestinal surgery at the University of Alabama Birmingham, and the featured article is Long-term Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial of a Nonoperative Strategy (Watchful Waiting) for Men With Minimally Symptomatic Inguinal Hernias by RJ Fitzgibbons et al that appeared in the Sept., 2013 issue of Annals.

This article can be accessed for free by anyone who wishes to participate in the journal club.
