April Issue and Journal Club
The April, 2013 issue of Annals of Surgery contains 2 feature articles with accompanying editorials, 2 reviews, 2 systematic reviews, and 20 original articles. One feature is dedicated to identifying the risk factors for esophageal carcinoma after antireflux surgery and the second summarizes the outcomes and best practices of simulation training for laparoscopic surgery. The reviews deal with the improvement of quality of emergency surgery within the Michigan regional quality collaborative and current best practices for preventing and treating pressure ulcers.

The moderator for the April Journal Club is Dr. John A. Olson, Jr. who is professor and vice-chair of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The featured article is  Impact of Chemotherapy Sequencing on Local-Regional Failure Risk in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Breast-Conserving Therapy by Mittendorf and co-authors that appeared in the February, 2013 issue of Annals of Surgery. This article can be accessed for free by all who wish to participate in the Journal Club.

A new collection, the 10 most cited articles from the 2012 issues of the Annals, has been added and the 2011 collection of most cited articles has been updated.
