Anesthesiology Reflections From The Wood Library-Museum
Fifty years ago this month, in November of 1963, Dr. Albert Betcher (left), the president of both the Wood Library-Museum (WLM) and of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, sat patiently under the tent erected for the festivities marking the opening of the WLM in Park Ridge, Illinois. At the lectern stands the president of the American Medical Association (right), Dr. Edward Annis. Following their speeches and the formal ribbon-cutting, Dr. Betcher would guide Dr. Annis through the upstairs library and the ground-floor exhibits there at 515 Busse Highway. According to Dr.Betcher, this posthumous salute to his friend, WLM Founder Paul Meyer Wood, M.D. (1894–1963), was one of the most bittersweet moments of his professional career.
