This infographic reviews the properties that influence the development of deep vein thromboses including both continuous and pulsatile qualities of blood flow within valve cusps. Several notable methods of mitigating the formation of thromboses are illustrated. Venous thromboembolism remains a major contributor to hospital mortality.
