From the CDC: New guidelines and prevention tool kits for health care–associated infections

Free Access

New guidelines and prevention tool kits for health care–associated infections are available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The newest, 2011 Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter–Related Infections, was developed by a broad-based team of health care professionals and is aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing costs in hospital, outpatient, and home care settings. An important "notice to readers" explains the new methodology used to develop these guidelines, which are available for free online. Top recommendations and detailed tool kits for preventing health care–associated infections, including urinary tract, surgical-site, Clostridium difficile, and central line–associated bloodstream infections outside the ICU, are available at the CDC Web site (http://1.usa.gov/h0TGns).
