Abstract

* Terbutaline now has a boxed warning on its label stating that the injected form shouldn't be used for more than 72 hours to treat preterm labor and that the oral form shouldn't be used at all to treat or prevent preterm labor.

* Terbutaline has been found to increase the risk of serious maternal cardiovascular effects.

* Some maternal deaths have occurred.
