It is a real pleasure to announce the appointment of Drs. Roel Coutinho and Brigitte Autran as new Editors of the journal. They come to the journal with excellent backgrounds in HIV/AIDS research and dedication to the challenge of finding a solution to this devastating disease.

At the same time we would like to acknowledge with great gratitude the tireless efforts of Dr. Anne Johnson who has left her post as Editor to pursue other responsibilities. Anne has been a tremendous help to us in directing the journal towards its successful position as the #1 cited journal in infectious diseases. She has also been a leader in pioneering efforts to maintain the ethical and moral standards of papers published in the journal. We will miss Anne very much and wish her the best in her new position. We welcome the assistance and advice of our new Editors, Roel and Brigitte.

In forthcoming issues we will be introducing a section called Research Letters. This will provide a forum for original research results and observations that merit publication and can be reported succinctly, the section replaces the original Correspondence section in AIDS. Research Letters will be peer-reviewed by two referees. The Correspondence section will now be reserved for letters that are addressing issues or exchanging views on topics arising from published articles in the journal. Correspondence will be subject to review by the editors, and in some instances these will be peer-reviewed.

We all look forward to continuing the great success of the journal in the forthcoming years.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Levy John P. Phair Marie Laga
