MFA HAS A NEW LOOK
The Medical Fitness Association (MFA) has a new logo and a new look! The new logo is an image of energy representing a dynamic organization and a dynamic membership. The medical fitness industry is growing, and our member centers - hospitals and medically integrated facilities - now have a new tool to effectively market the medical fitness difference in their communities.
HAS IT BEEN 30 YEARS?
On November 19, 2008, Integris Health PACER Fitness Center in Oklahoma City, OK, celebrated its 30th year as the first hospital-based fitness center in the country. The industry salutes PACER and the hospitals that had a vision for the future and created an opportunity for others.
MFA FACILITY CERTIFICATION FOR MEDICAL FITNESS CENTERS
Last year, MFA launched the first facility certification for the health and fitness industry - a groundbreaking initiative. Recently, MFA opened its facility certification program to all medical fitness facilities, regardless of whether they are MFA members. The MFA made this decision to provide a mechanism for all health and fitness facilities to benchmark their programs and services against standards and guidelines designed specifically for medically integrated fitness centers.
"Certified medically integrated fitness centers feature the professional expertise and programming necessary to safely and effectively assist all people, regardless of their current health status, to develop, initiate, and maintain an active lifestyle that minimizes risk and promotes health and wellness. The MFA seal of approval assures consumers the facility has met the highest standards of quality and service and will offer them an appropriate and effective health and wellness experience," says Brad A. Roy, Ph.D., FACSM, FACHE, MFA Board chair and vice president/administrator at Kalispell Regional Medical Center and The Summit in Kalispell, MT.
Certification details are available at www.medicalfitness.org or call 804-897-5701 to request an application.
STANDARDS & GUIDELINES FOR MEDICAL FITNESS CENTER FACILITIES RELEASED
MFA, in conjunction with Healthy Learning, one of the world's leading publishers of books and instructional materials for health and fitness professionals, has introduced an expanded edition of the original Standards. The new publication provides a comprehensive appendix of sample forms and materials for use in preparing a facility for certification and features a set of nationally derived parameters that are applicable to the design and operation of a medical fitness center (www.healthylearning.com).
